What is Google Analytics 4?

Google Analytics 4, commonly referred to as GA4, is a powerful analytics solution that enables you to monitor traffic and user interactions across your websites and applications.

Launched by Google on October 14, 2020, GA4 was previously known as “app + web” or “universal” analytics.

Developers and owners of millions of websites utilise Google Analytics to assess user activity across web domains, mobile applications, and APIs.

This platform was built on the same foundation as Google’s “App + Web” technology, which debuted in 2019.

In this article, I will explore both the plugin and manual methods for integrating Google Analytics 4 into your WordPress website, including insights on WordPress development and WordPress maintenance.

What’s new in Google Analytics 4?

GA4 was introduced as the “next generation” of analytics by Google. It’s the latest edition of Google’s free web analytics tool.

It’s also meant to be more user-friendly, with a new interface that makes data collection easier. Google Analytics 4 has all the features of Google Analytics 3 plus some additional ones, such as:

  • More privacy
  • 360° data analysis
  • Customisable goals
  • Probability Prediction
  • Automated insights
  • Machine Learning
  • Mobile app measurement
  • Better integration
  • Customisable Goal
  • Cross-device tracking
  • Improved dashboard
  • New Conversion modelling
  • New UI design
  • Enhanced real-time reporting
  • A/B testing
  • customised funnel reports.
  • Improved event table.

Should I upgrade to Google Analytics 4?

The answer is yes. You should immediately upgrade Universal Analytics to Google Analytics 4.

Google has declared that after July 1, 2023, Universal Analytics Properties will no longer handle data. So it’s important that you migrate from UA (universal Analytics) to GA4 by July 1, 2023.

We understand how essential your data is to you. Therefore, we highly recommend you export your historical reports within this period.

Moreover, Google Analytics 4 is better than Universal Analytics. You will get deeper analytics, more support and more organised data. It will help you to make a better SEO plan strategy.

How to Signup for Google Analytics.

First, go to “accounts.google.com and sign in with your Gmail address and password.

If you don’t have a Gmail account, then click on the “Create account” button and create an account with the proper details.

Any website, mobile app, blog, etc. that has a specific tracking ID is considered a “property” in the Google Analytics system.

An account using Google Analytics may include several properties. Each property will get a unique tracking ID.  With the ID, you can access the analytics data from Google.

So, Google Analytics Property is essential for analysing website traffic and conversions.

In the 2nd step, enter a property name, and select a reporting time zone, location, and currency. Then click on the Next button.

Your selected timezone and currency will be used to display the analytics data.
